Regional Water Planning Groups (RWPGs) were established by the Texas Legislature by SB 1 in 1997 and SB 2 in 1999. There are 16 RWPGs across the state that are charged with developing and adopting regional water plans every five years. These regional plans are incorporated into the State Water Plan which serves as a guide to state water policy. RWPGs consist of water user groups from different sectors, including municipalities, businesses and others. Learn more about regional water planning from the Texas Water Development Board here.
